Why 30? Apparently, this has something to do with the so-called "Saturn Return" in astrology, which is when Saturn comes back to meet one's natal Saturn. This takes about 29.5 years. The Saturn Return is a wake-up call. When we were young, there seemed to be finite time to decide what we wanted to be "when we grew up". When we become 30, it's time for us to grow up.
Anyway, since I still have a couple of years before I need to be mature, I've come up with a list of things to accomplish by the time I turn 30. And while I may or may not accomplish all of it, as they say, it is always about the journey and not the destination.
1. Bungee jump off the Macau Tower (tallest bungee jump from a building).
2. Watch the cherry blossoms bloom at the Sakura Festival.
3. Make snow angels and a snow man in natural snow.
4. Watch the leaves turn golden brown in autumn.
5. Party like there's no tomorrow at the full moon parties in Koh Pangan.
6. Backpack like a tourist in the island of Cebu and see what all the towns have to offer.
7. Surf in Siargao. And Bondi Beach.
8. Eat, pray, love in Bali.
9. Run and finish a 10K marathon.
10. Learn to ride a bike and bike around Batanes.
11. Skydive.
12. Ride the dunes in Paoay. Or Dubai.
13. Sleep in the desert.
14. Sing in front of a live audience.
15. Go on a mission or volunteer work.
16. Join the nudists sunbathing in a nude beach.
17. Go vegetarian for a month (record details in a food diary!).
18. Celebrate the Carnaval in Brazil.
19. Go anonymous in a masquarade ball.
20. Learn and converse in another language.
21. Get a photograph or article published in a travel magazine.
22. Cliff dive. (20 feet, at least!)
23. Fly a plane.
24. Dive in the Tubataha Reef in Palawan. Or the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
25. Snowboard.
26. Be hippie-chic at a music festival.
27. Earn another certification. (At some point, I need to make sure I don't ruin my career. Haha :p)
28. Pay off all my debts.
29. Finish The Friday Diaries.
30. Let go. And be happy.
Updated on January 2013:
Why limit to 30 things? I've decided to make this about experiences - a list of all the things I want to be able to do in this lifetime. Life may be short, but that does not mean I can only really do 30 things before I turn 30.
