Back to Boracay

Boracay's White Beach and crystal clear waters

Sometimes, the best way to de-stress after all of life’s craziness is to head out to the beach. And what better place to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf than one of the most beautiful beaches in the world- Boracay. Since it wasn’t my first or second time in the island, I was content to just sit down with a drink in hand and watch its world famous sunsets, although for this trip, I knew I just had to go and see Ariel’s Point, one of the newer attractions.

The cliffs at Ariel's Point

The diving platforms at Ariel's Point
Ariel’s Point is more famous for its cliff diving and that was the reason why I wanted to go in the first place, but I never really realized it could be more than just that. After jumping off a 20-foot platform into the Nam Song river in Vang Vieng, I knew that I’ll definitely have the guts to jump off the cliffs at Ariel’s Point, but staring down from a 50-foot platform into the sea below gave me goosebumps. I even thought I wouldn’t, but I just had to since I wanted to cross cliff diving off my to-do list. And that was one big splash, not to mention one big bruise on one of my legs. If you think 50 feet is too high for you, you may jump off one of the cliffs closer to the water: you may choose from 30 feet, 16 feet, or 10 feet cliffs. It’s real fun and you get one big audience when you do it, making you feel like a total rock star, even if you just jump off the shortest one.

Me, mustering the courage to jump off a 15 meter (50 foot) ledge.
One big splash!
Trying to look cool 50 feet above the water.
While cliff diving may be its main attraction, if you are of the faint of heart, you may choose to sit back and relax in the stationary bamboo raft and watch the somewhat crazier people jump or somersault into the crystal blue waters. You can also go kayaking or snorkeling and sometimes the guides can take you to the nearby sandy beach, although we were never privileged enough to have done that. If you’d rather just sit on one of the bamboo loungers and eat and drink, you can do that as well. Personally, I preferred sitting next to the bar and be given a steady supply of rum and coke. Just pure bliss for someone who did not intend to say sober that day. The bar is also a good place to get acquainted with the über friendly staff and with the other thrill-seekers who had their fill of adrenalin rush.

If only my bedroom looked anything like this.
Be sure to jump unto the double-decker boat on the way from and back to Boracay. Depending on the number of guests, you can end up on the normal outrigger boats or be shipped off in style on Boracay Beach Club’s double-decked boat. Usually, the boat you rode to Ariel’s Point would be your boat back, but luckily for us, we were given the chance to return back to Boracay in style and in the company of new friends.

Lastly, you can either: behave yourself and not regret anything or be wild and still regret nothing. The staff carry with them a camera and they upload all the pictures on Facebook, and that pic of me in a bikini with drinks in hand wasn’t very popular with a lot of people at all, although, hey, you can’t please everybody. I had one of the best times in my life and I definitely would love to go back. And even jump off that cliff again.
This Russian lady doesn't seem to mind.

Awesome way to end the day!

What I loved about Ariel's Point

#3 The food and drinks
The lunch they served was great and you can take a bite out of grilled beef and chicken, and most especially the fish. There is also an abundant supply of snacks all through-out the day, from fresh fruits to (cracklings) and banana cue (love!). And the best part? The drinks are unlimited as well! I’m not too sure if that was ideal for people wanting to jump off cliffs, but the chilled beers and rum and coke was definitely a crowd-pleaser.

No one says "no" to unlimited food and drinks.

#2 The party boat
A birthday celebration, half-crazy and half-drunk people, the nicest staff I’ve met in my entire life, rum and coke, the sunset, and a blast of the Party Rock Anthem is enough to turn the upper deck of any boat into one big party. Thanks to our new friends, Ujin and Thirde who gave us VIP tickets, and we were able to enjoy one crazy party from Ariel’s Point back to Boracay Island.
Cheers to new friends!

#1 The adrenalin rush
To be honest, it took me some five minutes to decide to actually jump off that cliff. It’s not easy looking down at that expanse of space down to the water below. And it probably was the longest five seconds of my life (I managed to think somewhere while dropping how far the water seemed to be… I had my eyes closed!) and probably the best five seconds of my life as well, never mind that I ended with a huge bruise on one side of my right leg for landing improperly in the water. But the thrill of it was awesome! This experience will probably go down as one of the craziest things I’ve ever done my entire life. That’s one item off my bucket list!
Should I or shouldn't I?

Just do it!
